Jim Thompson Factory Sales Outlets and Sale at BITEC

Warning: when going to the Jim Thompson house opposite the National Stadium on Rama I Road, beware of touts telling you it’s closed. Ignore them, continue walking.  The Jim Thompson House is open 09:00 to 17:00 everyday.

At the Jim Thompson Outlet, cotton fabric is 180 baht per meter.

There are 5 floors: 1st floor silk and cotton fabric, 2nd floor cotton fabric, 3rd floor silk fabric, 4th floor tee shirts, silk shirts, cosmetic bags, ties, bathrobes, stuffed animals, etc., 5th floor home furnishings, cushions, bean bag chairs, pillow cases and Cafe 93 coffee shop

They have all the same items at the Jim Thompson sale at BITEC (Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Center). There are some items made only for the BITEC sale. There are two sales per year, in June and December. Items are discounted over 50% from retail. They run for 3 days from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. BTS sky train station –  Bang Na, exit 1 a short walk to BiTEC. You’ll see a large sign. Inside BITEC grounds, catch shuttle to entrance.

There is a coffee shop at the sale so you can have a snack. Upon entering the hall, staff give you a plastic bag to shop with, a large garbage size bag, and they cover your purse with a plastic bag and tie it. This is to deter pickpockets, they say. Once inside, fill your bag with items. It’s a madhouse!

There are tee shirts, silk shirts, purses and bags, bean bag chairs, placemats and table cloths, duvet bed covers, etc. After shopping a while, you can go sit in the middle, which is a roped off area. Here people sit on the floor and spill out the contents of their bags. They sort and reconsider, and rest and wait for other members of their party. Finally, head to the checkout. After paying by cash or credit card, take your receipt out to the counter for your free gift if you spent over 5,000 baht. Get cookies at one counter and another gift at another counter to the right after you exit the main hall. Then on to the counter at the front right to get gift bags and boxes. Just show your receipt.
