picking the raffle ticket

We randomly chose the winner! And the winner is Meg.

Thank you everyone for buying raffle tickets. At our coffee morning on Tuesday we had Kimberly pick the winning ticket. Thanks to all who bought tickets! Meg won the beautiful Cotton Reel art style quilt by Faye Vawdrey of the Queen Bees quilt group in Melbourne. It was exquisitely hand quilted by the girls of “Our Home.” Remember if you need a quilt made, “Our home” girls can

  • make a quilt to your specifications from scratch
  • finish a project for you at any stage
  • repair and restore antique quilts
  • they are experts at hand quilting your quilt top to make it an heirloom piece

Khun Tiew supervises and teaches quilting to young women, some having small children. Our Home takes in young women from different backgrounds that need a helping hand and a fresh start. By taking these young women in, Tiew and her husband have provided a home and an artisitic skill and income for these young women… quilting!

Our Home in Rayong, Thailand is a real help for these young women to get a fresh start in life. Thanks for your donations.

Chinatown Shopping Day

Posted by Jill C. on December 2, 2011

Chinatown has pink banners up saying “long live the King”. Click on the video to play.

Thailand is OK for tourists once again after the floods in October/November. We went shopping along Sampeng Lane and walked to Pahurat. There is a good variety of quilt fabric, especially a lot of pretty Moda fabric. We shopped at China World mall and had lunch at the food court on the 3rd floor. It was a very nice day.

Meyer Cookware and Lotus Crystal Factory Outlets in Thailand

Posted by Jill C. on December 9, 2010

The Meyer factory outlet is a 2 hour drive from Pakkret and it is open only one week each year, during December. They sell Anolon, Circulon, and SilverStone cookware. We also saw Rachel Ray pots and pans, and Prestige cooking implements. There is a table of seconds at steep discounts. It’s really fun to go there. For example a 10 piece set of Circulon was 6900 baht, marked down from 9900 baht retail. It included:

  • 14cm/1QT/0.9L saucepan
  • 18cm/2QT/1.9L saucepan
  • 20cm/3.5QT/3.3L dutch oven
  • 24cm/8QT/7.6L stockpot
  • 24cm/10″/3QT/2.8L frypan

The Lotus Crystal factory outlet is a half hour drive away from Meyer. Open all year. They have a selection of jewelry, crystal stemware, mikasa plates and mugs, candles and crystal vases. For example a lead crystal handmade vase was 1750 baht marked down from 3500 baht.

Tip: If going with a group, bring a marker to mark your bags! When you get home you can grab your bags easily.

Here is what I bought at Meyer Outlet in December 2010:
Rachel Ray 8 QT stainless stockpot with lid, 775 baht
Anolon Advanced Ultimate 12-Inch Covered Stir-Fry Pan 2370 baht
Circulon “Total” 5-Quart 12-Inch Sauteuse with Glass Lid 1674 baht
Anolon Advanced 8-Inch Open French Skillet 714 baht
Anolon Garlic Press 340 baht
Anolon Spoon Spatula, silicone 266 baht
Anolon Spatula, silicone 252 baht
Earth Pan II by Farberware 10-Inch Skillet 198 baht

“Our Home” Quilting in Thailand

Posted by Jill C. on August 3, 2010

raffle quilt 2010

Last year Carolina won the raffle quilt from Our Home. Thanks to everyone who participated in the raffle.

“Our Home” in Rayong, Thailand is a real help to a few young women who otherwise have no family to help them.

The young women come from all over Thailand. Some of them have not known a home of their own. They live in a family-like atmosphere and learn quilting and social skills. They participate in all aspects of family life. Making quilts has been an ongoing experience for Khun Tiew, the founder of “Our Home”, and the girls. Customers have a choice in every detail of their quilt and the quilts are of the highest standard. The girls are proud of their work.

If you would like to help “Our Home”, please donate. Thank you very much!
