Labels, Tags, Iron On Transfer Sheets at Sampeng Lane

    #89 Sampeng Lane, Bangkok Thaviwat

At these two shops on Sampeng Lane, you can order tags for your clothing manufacturing. At Hong Garment, you can order woven tags. At Bangkok Thaviwat, you can order printed tags on satin polyester ribbon. That’s where we got our quilt labels long ago! They were printed on satin polyester ribbon and the minimum was 1000 labels for those because they were big. Smaller labels such as those that go into clothing, can be ordered with about 6000 labels at a minimum and the cost is around 8000 baht total. You can email your logo design in an ai file.

The items pictured below are found at Hong Garment #48 Sampeng Lane. Clothing labels are available in black and white. The price is 120 baht per roll and provides 480 labels. The letters are woven into the ribbon. For example there is “100% cotton, Made in Thailand, Machine Wash Separately, Cold Water, Tumble Dry Low, Do Not Bleach” on one label as shown below, along with sizes from S to XL. They also have “Dry Clean Only” labels.

If you would like a smaller quantity, consider using iron-on transfer sheets to make labels. An inkjet printer is all you need! Hong Garment #48 Sampeng Lane or their branch at Mega Plaza, 900 Mahachai Rd, used to be Merry King, open every day Mega Plaza Facebook

Just ask around for a local tailor. There are always local curtain makers in every neighborhood, and furniture repairmen, and people who will do pillow covers too. You have to ask locally.

Sampeng Lane is open on Saturday and Sunday, from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, except for Chinese New Year in February and Songkran holiday in April. Some of the shops close early on Sunday at 2:30 pm. China World is open every day from 9:30 to 19:00 including Sat and Sunday.

Hi Jill, Nice site thanks for listing fabric outlets in BKK. But I’m desperate to find a place where I can buy off-the-rack business shirts. I only have one day in BKK on a visa run from Vietnam. Hope you can help. PS would’ve sent this to an emaill addy but couldn’t find one, so sorry for the cross post. 😉

I don’t really know. Doesn’t Viet Nam have business shirts? I don’t know if you’re looking for cheap, expensive or wholesale. How about Central Dept store. There are many branches and they have good quality shirts.

Not XXL. Only able to get tailor made and the tailor quality is sub par. If I had more than 1 day in BKK I would be tempted to go down that path ie tailor made. But my only option is to try and find a place that sells reasonable quality white business shirts off-the-rack. Thanks for the tip on Central – not heard of it before. In fact as I’ve never been to BKK shopping before it is a welcome start. And I’m just after half a dozen. BR Steve

Hi Jill: I am attempting to locate some quilting thread made in Thailand, called Shoppers Rule, Premium Select, Nanofiber in 3000 meter cones. Would you happen to be familiar with this or know of a supplier? In one of the links, I notice an upper shelf stocked with cones of thread, but can’t recall which link it was in. Thank you, Cathie

That image is from a post I wrote about a local notions shop where I live north of Bangkok. They only have local thread Venus and Ten & Co. Ask where a sewing notions shop is around you. Then try the local thread. Otherwise we quilters bring our supplies from the US when we go home on vacation. https://bkkquilt.com/2010/10/22/sawadee/

Hi Jill, I have just moved to Bangkok and am looking for supplies for weaving: silk yarns, yarns with big texture and maybe even ribbons. Do you have any recommendations for where to look? I can make a special trip to China town if you know some really good places. I normally have my two toddlers with me so if you know of a place in town along the BTS that would be great too!

It takes 4 days to get the sample, then more time to get the order. It’s more expensive than the printed. I don’t know the price.

      Hi, Jill,
I’m a longarm quilter in St George, UT. One of my customers asked if I would continue to quilt for her if she mailed her quilts. Needless to say, that would be crazy expensive for her.
I googled, thinking there might be quilters in Thailand – and here I am!
Do you know of anyone with a quilting business I could refer my friend/customer to? Anywhere in theFar East would be closer then me! 🙂
      Thank you!
PS: Great site! Wish I had a trip to Thailand coming up. Maybe I could deduct it as a business expense. 😉

There aren’t any machine quilting businesses in Thailand. That’s why we learned to machine quilt our own quilts here, out of necessity. If you’re interested in getting some hand quilting done, you can contact me through these comments. It would involve mailing your quilt to Rayong, Thailand, to Khun Tiew and Our Home quilters. Thanks!

Hi Jill, thanks for the updated information. I went looking on our last visit to Bangkok, and was amazed at what is available at what prices, and just didn’t have room in my suitcase for any more. I found some wonderful bargains. I will be back later this year in September, and will be checking out some of these wonderful places. Quilting fabrics in Australia are so expensive, and these are a great find.

      Thanks again Wendy

Wholesale flannel in pink, blue, green, yellow and white, at this counter at the intersection of Sampeng Lane and Maha Chak Road.

Today I will answer readers’ questions. See map at end of post for location of shops.

    • I’m looking for colored stretch cord, for jewelry. I’m wondering if they sell it in Sampeng Market?
      • I saw spools of stretch cord in green, yellow, lavendar, blue, pink and black at Loa Kwean for 85 baht per spool. 123-125-127 Rajchawong Road, Sampeng, Bangkok 10100.
      • Wattanaporn Pu Shop at 256 Sampeng Lane has a good selection of stretch cord. One pack is 120 baht and is 100 meters. They are open from 8:30 to 5:30 daily, Sundays 8:30 – 2:30.

    • Wondering if China World shops accept credit cards? Do they do vat refunds? Please advise. Thanks.
      • I asked at one shop and they said they accept credit cards on purchases over 2000 baht. But many shops do not accept credit cards. No VAT refunds.
    • Could you explain where the Lycra shop is and name of shop please. I don’t know the Temple. Thank you.
      • Korea Shop sells Lycra stretch knit fabric at 100 baht per meter plain, and 130 baht per meter for prints. It’s located in the entrance driveway to Chakrawat temple, and is open from 8:00 to 6:00 daily. My Garmin GPS coordinates are N 13° 44.555′ E 100° 30.207′

    • I was told it is dead town on Mondays, is that true? Should I avoid Mondays, please?
      • Any day of the week is good to go. Some shops may be closed on Sunday. Shops are closed for Chinese New Years, Feb 19-21, 2015.
    • Hello! I love this resource! Can you tell me if you’ve seen the name brand Moda in Sampeng? Also where can I find flannel?
      • Moda fabric can be found mixed in with other brands at Kimono Shop at Chinaworld. There is a lady on the corner of Sampeng Lane and Chakrawat Road selling flannel. Not in a shop, but just at a counter on the side of the road.
    feathers at Pornsawad

Feathers at Pornsawad #60-62 Sampeng Lane

    • Hey, I stumbled across your blog while searching for a place to buy feathers in Bangkok. Can you recommend any? I make dreamcatchers so I am looking for feathers to decorate them. Bright mix of Turkey coquille feathers.
      • Pornsawad Shop #60-62 Sampeng Lane has feathers at 35 baht each, or for 100 or more the price is 25 baht each. They also sell net, felt, burlap (sale 95 baht per meter), cloth bags, lace, bells, glitter, velcro in different colors, batting, lining fabric, TC (Tetron Cotton), and faux fur fleece (300 baht per meter).
    • Hello I’m reading about places such as Pahurat, Sampeng lane and Chinaworld. Are these places located close to each other or are they essentially the same place?
      • The are located close to each other. You can walk around all these places together and spend a full day shopping there.
    • I want to plan a trip to purchase quilting fabrics. Could you give me addresses. So I can locate a hotel near by.
      • If you want to start with an address right in the middle of Chinatown, try Grand China Hotel, 215 Yaowarat Road, Sampanthawong, Bangkok, 10100 Thailand. I made this custom map below including all the nearby hotels.

How to get to Sampeng Lane Chinatown on the MRT

The way to get to Sampeng Lane by public transport is to take the MRT Metropolitan Rapid Transit
(subway) to the Hua Lampong Station. Walk out exit 4. Straight ahead you will see bus 40 waiting there usually. It takes you to Sampeng for only 8 baht. Have fun seeing the sights and sounds of Chinatown!
